W00t Is the Number 1 Word for 2007

According to Merriam-Webster’s online audience, w00t is the top word of 2007.

1. w00t (interjection)
expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word “yay”

Facebook is in at #2.

See what else made the list.

(Blog was the #1 word for 2004.)

This list is bizarre. I agree with the top 2 words (but along similar lines where’s “pwn”?), but as for some of the rest…  I mean, have you ever heard anyone use the words “Pecksniffian” or “sardoodledom”? Maybe it’s an American thing…?

Travis suggested yesterday that “message mung” needs to be more widely used. It’s the muck that gets attached to messages that are forwarded, then forwarded, then reply-all’d to, then forwarded ...

All the gunk that gets added to the original message.

The other word he had was “notebooking”, i.e., when a girl sets up her boyfriend to watch The Notebook movie just to observe his teary reaction (achievable apparently by watching the movie, but I suspect the mere thought of having to watch it would have most boys in a delicate state).
